St. Ives Information
This historic fishing town is one of the most popular holiday destinations in Cornwall. Famed for its traditions in the fishing industry, it now attracts tourists from all over the world who come to explore the quaint cobbled streets and breath-taking views. The large harbour once saw over 400 pilchard fishing boats working from it, and although some boats are still based here, the town is now more tourist orientated with many unusual shops located along the narrow streets and hidden corners.
The town is now equally famous for its draw among the artistic community, and is home to the new Tate Gallery which was opened in 1993, as well as many smaller galleries and studios. Known for the quality of light here, it has been home to many famous artists such as Barbara Hepworth whose work can be seen at a museum named in her memory and devoted to her outstanding work.
