On Mayday, Padstow is holding it's annual 'Obby 'Oss Day.
Believed to be one of the oldest Cornish festivals, the town is decorated in vast arrays of spring flowers to celebrate the coming of summer. A procession sings the May Song and everybody dresses up in red or blue sashes accompanied by traditional folk music.
The hobby horse from which the event takes it's name, parades through the town, gathering ladies under it's skirt as a fertility rite. This is though to induce good luck!
The parade begins at 10.00am when the 'oss dances through the streets to the sound of drums, and the day doesn't end until the traditional dance around the Maypole at midnight.
